Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, commonly known as Wolves, are a professional football club based in Wolverhampton, England.

The club was originally formed as St. Luke's Football Club in 1877, before changing their name to Wolverhampton Wanderers two years later and later becoming one of the Football League’s founding members in 1888.

Wolves have been English League champions 3 times, plus have also won 2 FA Cups and 2 League Cups. They are the first club to have won all four professional English leagues and are the 11th most successful club in domestic English history.

The club has played at Molineux Stadium since 1889, when then moved from their original ground, Dudley Road. The first official game was held on 7 September 1889 in front of a crowd of 4,000, despite being able to hold 20,000 people, as English football rarely attracted those crowd sizes at that time.

In 1953, Wolves became one of the first British clubs to install floodlights at their stadium. The club then arranged televised ‘floodlit friendlies’ against some of the best overseas club sides, which is recognised as being instrumental in the creation of the European Cup (now known as the UEFA Champions League) in 1955.

The club's traditional kit is made up of ‘old gold’ shirts and socks with black shorts and since 1979 the team strip has included the club's famous wolf's head logo.

The 2018–19 Premier League season was the first and only time that Wolves were the only club representing the West Midlands playing in the top flight of English football.

Wolves' longest-established and strongest rivalry is with West Bromwich Albion, who are situated only 11 miles away, in the hotly contested Black Country derby. The club also share rivalries with the two Birmingham clubs, Aston Villa and Birmingham City.

Wolverhampton Station is just a short 15 minute walk from Molineux Stadium.
