Crystal Palace Football Club, commonly referred to as Palace, are a professional football club based in Selhurst, South London.

The Crystal Palace Company owned the famous Crystal Palace Exhibition Building and founded the Crystal Palace Club in 1857 to play cricket initially, before turning their attention to football. They formed the amateur Crystal Palace football club in 1861, and in 1924 they moved to their current home at Selhurst Park where they have played their football ever since.

Crystal Palace enjoy the nickname of the Eagles, inspired by Portuguese giants Benfica, with a badge depicting the image of an eagle holding a ball. From mid-2010 to 2020, the club used an American bald eagle called Kayla as the club mascot, with the bird famously flying from one end of Selhurst Park to the other.

The 2022–23 campaign was the 117th season of Crystal Palace Football Club, and the club's tenth consecutive season in the Premier League - extending their longest ever spell in the top flight.

They have reached the FA Cup final twice without winning it, losing to Manchester United on both occasions. The club did enjoy their highest ever league finish during the 1990–91 season, finishing in third place in the old First Division, now known as the Premier League. The club subsequently became founder members of the Premier League in 1992.

During the 2000’s Crystal Palace went through a lot of economical struggles with several change of ownerships and two spells under administration, however they recovered well and successfully returned to the Premier League in 2013, where they have remained ever since.

Palace have a long-standing rivalry with Brighton & Hove Albion while also sharing strong rivalries with South London clubs Millwall and Charlton Athletic, although due to their location in the capital, Crystal Palace are involved in a number of local derbies.

The nearest railway stations to Selhurst Park are Selhurst, Thornton Heath or Norwood Junction, all of which are served by London Victoria mainline station. Both Thornton Heath and Norwood Junction are also served by trains from London Bridge. From each of these local stations it is then a 10-15 minute walk to Selhurst Park.
