Brighton & Hove Albion are an English professional football club located in the city of Brighton & Hove on the south coast of England.

Nicknamed the Seagulls, or sometimes Albion, the club was founded in 1901 and played their early professional football in the Southern League, before joining the Football League in 1920.

Prior to the current spell in the Premier League, Brighton enjoyed their greatest success between 1979 and 1983 when they played in the old First Division. During this time, they reached the 1983 FA Cup Final, but lost to Manchester United after a replay and then were also relegated from the First Division in the same season.

By the late 1990’s, Brighton were languishing in the bottom division of the English Football League and struggling with financial difficulties. After closely avoiding relegation to the Conference in 1997, a boardroom takeover saved the club from liquidation.

Since then, the Seagulls has experienced successive promotions and even moved to a grand new stadium in 2011. The club's new home ground is the 31,800-capacity Falmer Stadium, better known to football fans as the Amex.

In the 2016–17 season, Brighton finished second in the Championship and were promoted to the Premier League, after spending 34 years outside of the top flight of football.

Last season, they finished sixth in the Premier League and achieved their highest top flight finish, whilst also qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for their first ever European campaign!

Due to the location of the club, Brighton doesn’t have a derby match or local rival, however over the years a bitter rivalry has developed with South London club Crystal Palace, despite the 40 mile distance between the two clubs. This derby is commonly referred to by the media as the M23 derby, but rarely called this by either set of fans.

The press sometimes consider south coast clubs Southampton and Portsmouth as local derbies, but most fans of each club fail to identify these as official derbies themselves.

The Amex Stadium is located at Falmer on the outskirts of Brighton, close to the University of Sussex. The quickest and easiest way to get to the Amex is by train, with Falmer Station situated right next to the ground and only three stops from Brighton Station.

Brighton & Hove Albion offer a fantastic scheme which provides free travel to the stadium on local public transport included in the price of your match ticket. This is valid for buses and trains, just simply show your match ticket for free travel!

Thames Lunch Cruise for Two We went on this cruise as a party of two adults and two children. The children loved spotting the landmarks along the Thames. The lunch was lovely and the service was very good. Kerry
