Brentford FC are a professional football club based in Brentford, West London. Originally founded in October 1889, Brentford joined the London League by 1896, soon progressing to the Southern League in 1898 and entering the main Football League in 1920.

Brentford's nickname is the Bees; this was unintentionally created by students of Borough Road College in the 1890s, when they attended a match and shouted the college's chant ‘buck up B’s’. Local newspapers misheard the chant as ‘Buck up Bees’ and the nickname stuck!

Since 1904, the club used to play home matches at Griffin Park before moving to Brentford Community Stadium in 2020, currently known as the Gtech Community Stadium as part of a ground sponsorship deal.

The stadium has a max capacity of 17,250 and is used for football and rugby union matches. The Bee’s main rivals are fellow West London clubs Fulham and Queens Park Rangers. The biggest rivalry is when Fulham visit and the two teams battle it out with local pride on the line.

Fun Fact: Back in the Sixties, QPR wanted to buy out Brentford in a move that would have banished the ‘real Brentford’ out of the league.

Brentford's home strip comprises of red and white striped shirts, black shorts and red or black socks. These have been the club's home colours since the 1925–26 season, except during the 1960–61 season when yellow (gold) and blue were used instead.

Unfortunately Brentford don’t have a great record in finals, finishing as runners-up in three Associate Members' Cup / Football League Trophy finals (1985, 2001 and 2011) and losing four play-off finals. However, Brentford won the 2021 Championship play-off final which saw them promoted to the Premier League for the first time.

Since then, under head coach Thomas Frank, Brentford have achieved 13th and 9th place finishes in each Premier League season. In fact, the Bees went into the final day of the 2022–23 season still in contention for a European place and managed to finish above all of their West London rivals in the football league for the first time since 1938–39!

The train or metro is a great way to reach the Brentford Community Stadium and is only 100 metres away from the Kew Bridge Station. Brentford’s ground is also connected very well to the London Underground system, as it is close to the Chiswick Park, Gunnersbury, and Acton Town stations.
